The countdown to the Solheim Cup, the most important competition in the world of women’s golf, has begun from Puerto Banús. Officially, there are now only 365 days left before the biennial golf tournament arrives in Spain for the first time with forecasts of reaching emblematic figures.

Last Wednesday, September 21st, One Year to Go, the official event for the countdown to the Solheim Cup 2023, was held in Puerto Banús. 365 children from Andalusian golf schools gathered along the dock to perform “The longest swing”; 365 shots towards the sea with biodegradable balls, each child representing a day left to start the competition.

On October 13th, 2020, the news was announced that Spain would host the 2023 Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesín, where the United States and Europe will face each other in Spain, for the first time in the entire history of the tournament.

The days go by and indicate that there are only 365 days left to start the competition that will be held from the 21st to the 24th of September 2023 in Marbella.

Before that date, promotional events for the Solheim Cup 2023 are being held throughout the national territory, and Puerto Banús has been the setting chosen for the celebration of One Year to Go, an event that has been held just one year before the start of the tournament for the official start of the countdown.

After 365 children took their shot from the Puerto Banús dock into the sea, the European captain, Suzann Pettersen, landed by helicopter in the marina together with Andrés Velencoso, Spanish actor and model, and Alberto Missis, guitarist of the band Dvicio. The children took the opportunity to have photos taken with celebrities and, of course, with the European captain of the Solheim Cup 2023.

At the Muelle de Honor, the cocktail was held that the guests could enjoy to celebrate the ‘One Year to Go’ with the subsequent official start of the countdown, by Rolex.

The totem that marks the countdown to the start of the Solheim Cup 2023 was inaugurated at the Muelle de Honor itself, and can be visited until the competition begins.

Puerto Banús is an enclave that recognizes very well this symbiosis of quality, excellence and sport and is committed to women’s sport in a sustainable event of great international relevance.

With events of such magnitude, Puerto Banús once again emphasizes its firm commitment to sport, culture and family. Thus, it continues to be a space chosen for the celebration of major international events, giving them visibility within a unique enclave visited by millions of people year after year.
