In collaboration with Ocean Ecostructures, we have installed systems in Puerto Banús in several areas under the sea within the harbour that allow the regeneration of marine biodiversity.
Last Thursday, November 24th, 10 LBU (Life Boosting Units) structures were installed in the marina; structures composed of highly versatile natural calcium carbonate, which allow degraded spaces in marine environments to begin to be renaturalised and reforested in a short period of time.
These LBUs have an exclusive multilayer design, with an area to attract larvae and microscopic life and a fish nursery space, an area where some species can recover if they are in a delicate state.
Through the use of this innovative technology, the system installed on the seabed of the enclosure allows revitalising and recycling marine infrastructure and damaged environments, restoring life and reinforcing the fight against climate change with the recovery of the marine environment.
As such, we have collabored with Ocean Ecostructures in it’s Seareg Project, created by marine biologists and scientists with the aim of providing solutions that allow offsetting the negative effects of the infrastructures installed in the sea through the implementation of biodiversity regeneration systems, using the latest techniques.
As a result, a total of 10 LBUs distributed in different areas of the harbour have been installed, previously analysed by the Ocean Ecostructures scientific team for their optimal development and regeneration of marine biodiversity in this enclave.
The LBU system is created with the aim of regenerating the native species of the area. The Lifeskin technology of each structure allows all floating microorganisms in the water to adhere more easily than in a conventional concrete wall of the port.
In order to achieve the objective of marine reforestation, these structures are installed approximately two meters below sea level. The most visible structures for visitors to Puerto Banús are found between pontoon 1 and pontoon 2. To see them, you just have to look carefully over the edge of the quay and you’ll be able to distinguish the structures.

This collaboration reiterates the environmental plan that Puerto Banús has established and its adherence to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals established by the UN.
