From 3rd to 12th December, the replica of the first vessel to circumnavigate the globe returns to the Dock of Honour at Puerto Banús
Once more again this year, we have the pleasure of welcoming the great Nao Victoria, the replica of the ship that made history five centuries ago under Magellan and Elcano.
Three years and 14 days, 245 crew and 32,000 miles sailed. That was the feat of the original Nao Victoria between 1519 and 1522. Now, its replica returns again to Puerto Banús from Friday 3rd December, to coincide with the switch-on of the Christmas lights and the start of festive activities.
The expedition set off from Seville in 1519 for the Moluccas, in what is now Indonesia. It was captained by Ferdinand Magellan, who was unable to finish the journey due to a tragic accident in the Philippines. However, the voyage was completed under Captain Juan Sebastián Elcano. The Nao Victoria thus became the first vessel to sail around the world. This would not be accomplished again for another 60 years.
The deed consummated more than four hundred years ago was repeated in 2004. On this occasion, this was made possible by an exact replica of the original Nao Victoria, which was present on the Dock of Honour at Puerto Banús for the first days of December. This set sail from Seville in 2004 on a voyage of two years covering over 2000 miles and stopping over in 17 countries. The circuit of the globe was completed once again.
Today, the Nao Victoria Foundation is responsible for managing the replica. The vessel has toured the main ports in Spain, Europe and the United States. Over six million people have already visited it, and we will have it in Puerto Banús again this Christmas.
Berth 1 of the Puerto Banús Dock of Honour, opposite the Control Tower, is the spot chosen for the return of the Nao Victoria for Christmas. It will be open to visitors from 10 AM to 7 PM, and tickets should be booked in advance. These are available either at the www.fundacionnaovictoria.org webpage or aboard.
In addition, we at Puerto Banús will donate the profits from the Nao Victoria exhibition to the Save the Children programme “At your side”. This project, created in 2020, accompanies and supports over 20,000 families and 3350 boys and girls in Spain affected by the socioeconomic crisis sparked by the current pandemic.
This Christmas, enjoy an encounter with one of the most momentous voyages in history. Enjoy the switch-on of the Christmas lights and all the seasonal activities we have planned during the month of December. Come aboard and immerse yourself in the experience of the 245 men who spent three years traversing the great oceans. Book your tickets in advance and sail around the world with your feet in Puerto Banús.
Remember that both from home or from La Nao you can contribute to Save the Children’s solidarity initiative. Through the following link you can join the challenge and help the most vulnerable families. Because in Puerto Banús we want more 3,500 children to also enjoy their desired Christmas.
I want to collaborate with Save the Children
