Malaga Christmas lights are switched on and are as spectacular as ever. Christmas is just around the corner and Malaga welcome in the festive season on Friday night as Calle Larios became bathed in seasonal light.
Throughout the evening, there were various events catered to all ages, including a theatre production of ‘Peneque el Valiente’ for children. There were also be balloons with Christmas messages distributed.
The lights were switched on at 7pm and this year represent a starry night sky. It was followed by a concert from David de María on a stage constructed in Plaza de la Constitución.
It was a busy night all round in Malaga city centre as many shops offered discounts for ‘Black Friday’. Some will continue to provide offers throughout the weekend.
The main Christmas tree can be found on Plaza de la Constitución, but there are others installed near the Cervantes theatre, Plaza de la Marina, Calle Alcazabilla and Lago de Huelin.
On Calle Larios alone, there are 554,782 lightbulbs, with the total for the city centre rising to 1,646,049. This year, though, the trees lining the Alameda Principal will not be lit up due to the ongoing construction work on the metro.
The lights, fitted by Iluminacones Ximenez, will remain on daily until 6 January from 6.30pm until 2am.
The total cost is 573,211 euros plus a predicted 1,500 euros for the electricity costs.Malaga
